Each set of Gibson Classical Bagpipes is designed and crafted to emulate the sound produced by the famous MacDougal pipe, whose design principles the Gibson Bagpipe refines. The refinements effected by Gibson include amongst other innovative improvements, and increase in depth and thrust from the deepened bass drone which adds to the richness of the drone sound. Gibson Classical Bagpipes were rated #1 overall in a 1996 test conducted by Piper & Drummer magazine of Ontario, Canada (The Worlds Best Piping and Drumming Publication according to a worldwide survey of piping publications by BBC Radio, Scotland).
Gibson Bagpipes have proven successful for many top soloist and first grade pipe band and Grade 2, 3, 4, and 5 bands have improved greatly with the Gibson sound as the chanters are easy to set-up with many of the popular reeds of today. All bores are polished to a mirror finish and resemble the interior of a gun barrel. This allows the sound to travel smoothly without creating turbulence which causes unsteady drone sounds.
All Gibson Classical Bagpipes are made with African Blackwood and are fully beaded and combed, Imitation Ivory, or polished Stainless Steel mounts and ferrules, adjustable blowpipe, water trap, bag cover, cords and hide bag. They come with a plastic pipe chanter. An African Blackwood pipe chanter is an available option.
Gibson Fireside Pipes are uniquely designed mouth blown small pipes which will give year of enjoyment easy to blow, great harmonics and set up properly at the factory, they will play right out of the box. Quite enough that they are ideal for playing just about anywhere. Play without disturbing family members. The are available in the Key of A, Key of B Flat or the Key of D. Your choice of either plain mount, stainless steel or imitation ivory mounts.
These amazing little pipes have great harmonics and tone. Unique air flow regulators have a simple 90 degree twist for off/on air flow to the drone. Very similar to the highland pipes, drones over the shoulder and tuning slides. Fireside pipe drones are made only from the finest cocobolo wood available. Upgrade to African Blackwood is an option.
Since 1983 Gibson pipe chanters in both plastic and African Blackwood have become well known for their excellent volume, sweet tone and crystal clear harmonics. One of the exceptional characteristics of the Gibson chanter is its very full volume top hand as well as its projection through the drones.
Since you will play your practice chanter for the rest of your piping career, it is better to purchase a good one right from the beginning. One that teaches you a truly balanced scale. This will help develop your ear and will also help alleviate blowing problems. Gibson Practice Chanters have superb tone and an exceptionally balanced scale. Countersunk finger holes are in the same position and location as the big pipe chanter making this transition easier.
Gibson Practice Chanters may be purchased in either plastic or African Blackwood, regular and long size, with or without a sole.
Gibson also carries a complete line of telescoping blowpipes with either a plain or imitation ivory mount and either an oval or round mouthpiece.
